Visiting with John & Bridget, Foretravel Rally Begins

We were back on the road at 8:15 this morning heading south on I-25. The traffic through Denver wasn’t too heavy.  We try to always choose the time carefully when we travel through big cities.

We arrived at the Garden of the Gods campground at eleven o’clock. We were all parked by 11:30 overall it was very pleasant and short travel day. As Gina got our home setup I was on the internet. We got a message from John & Bridget they were here in Colorado Springs and decided to drive over to see us.

We had last seen them at the RV-Dreams rally in 2008. Since then John has retired and they are now traveling fulltime. They’re both from Mississippi and it was nice to visit with another couple from the south. Gina and I are so glad that they took the time to come visit us before they head east today as they make their way to Kansas. After we said our “see ya down the road” we walked over to the Four Corners Foretravel Rally for the “Meet and Greet”.

Happy 80th Birthday Rick!!!

We had a great time meeting everyone and enjoyed celebrating Rick’s 80th birthday. After I ate two pieces of birthday cake we told everyone goodnight and walked back home to take Angel and Zoey for a walk. We told Mom & Pop’s goodnight and went to bed.

Our adventure for today will be the Cog Railway up to Pikes Peak. That will be our excitement so stay tuned for pictures tomorrow.

Travel to Cheyenne, Wyoming

We woke up early Sunday morning to complete our departure checklist. I even got to use my new digital pressure gauge on my powertank to fill my trailer tires. No more mechanical gauge. It worked great.

We departed Custer at 9:30 this morning slowly making our way to Cheyenne, Wyoming. Mom & Pop’s led the way through the back roads of Wyoming.

The scenery was beautiful as we drove through the rolling hills and grassland of Wyoming.  Here's what we saw as we drove.  Gina took more pictures but at 60 mph these were the best ones.

We decided to stop at Terry’s Bison Ranch & campground. It’s a Passport America campground so the price was reasonable for an overnight stop. Once Gina and I parked our home and unhitched we drove to F.E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne. Once we made it on the base we were amazed at all of the Antelope and Canadian geese roaming through the streets. I believe Gina could have sat there for hours watching them all play.

We needed to pick up a few items at the commissary. We didn’t intend to buy ground meat but they had 93% lean ground meat for 1.49 a pound. We just couldn’t pass this up. Once we jumped back into the truck we called Mom to let her know we were on our way back home.  She told us that they were waiting on us to eat dinner so hurry up. We made it back home around 5:30. Mom and Gina heated up leftover broccoli & cheese soup and taco soup. What a combination but we had a bowl of each and it hit the spot perfect. With our stomachs full we sat and chatted for a little while until we said goodnight.

We give Thanks and Praise to Our Father for providing a safe drive today. We’re up early this morning as we continue our drive to Colorado Springs, Colorado today.

One Last Four Wheeler Ride in the Black Hills

Saturday morning found Gina cleaning up our home and truck. She then washed all of our dirty clothes as we get ready to leave today. We finished most of everything by lunch so I asked Gina if she wanted to take a ride on the four-wheeler for lunch. She said, "yes". We both wanted to take one last ride through the Black Hills. I suggested that we take our lunch and eat it at our own little special spot. We found a spot right after we arrived here that we now call our "special place". It’s on top of a mountain with fantastic views. It’s over 6,000 feet and you can see for miles in all directions.

Around 3:30 we decided it was time to head home. I helped Pop’s drain all of the water lines in the cabin which included the water heater. After we finished then Mom winterized all of the drains with RV antifreeze.

We finished a little after four o’clock after which we all sat outside for one last happy hour. Gina cooked Taco soup for dinner and as always it was delicious. You could tell that it was going to be another cold night as it was already cold outside. After dinner we said goodnight and agreed that our goal to leave this morning would be nine o’clock. We walked home and relaxed for the night reflecting on our time here in Custer, South Dakota. It has been an amazing summer for Gina and I. Not just here with Mom & Pop's in Custer but our trip to Montana to see Mike & Janna and our trip to Canada to see John & Brenda. We have had the time of our lives and memories to last a few lifetimes. We are so thankful that Our Father is allowing us to live our dream of traveling.

We'll say goodbye to Custer this morning as we’ll be driving to Cheyenne, Wyoming today.  Then continue on toward Colorado Springs, Colorado on Monday.
